21st-century poet, self-published author, and literature enthusiast! #kids-serving-kids

Methodology

~My technique in teaching is rooted in the Socratic method. If you are not familiar with this style of learning, it is defined as the cooperative argumentative dialogue between individuals, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to draw out ideas and underlying presuppositions. Translated into more straightforward language, it means that I help the student bring out the knowledge and insights they need for their writing from within, instead of simply handing it to them on a silver platter.

~When we meet, I love to have something that the student is currently working on so that I can see what they are studying and what their strengths are. The human mind is an extraordinary gift and is capable of more than we know. The ability to formulate ideas and draw conclusions may feel daunting, but by drawing connections between what we know, and what we strive to know, is easier than it seems.

Background

Hi there! Besides being a college student, a crazed English enthusiast, and a self-published author, I am currently the president of my school's branch of the NEHS and help fellow adolescents reach their full literary potential! Over the years, I have helped students grow confident in their writing skills and have witnessed their grades skyrocket through the roof! Sometimes it is challenging to have adults help teenagers because, let's be honest here, sometimes they can be a little intimidating.

I’ve known Megan since she was a toddler. She is patient, kind and has a wonderful outlook on life. She works passionately and tirelessly on all her endeavors, but especially at writing. I think there is nothing she enjoys more than sharing her love of writing with others. Megan offers positive feedback and encouragement, and would be a wonderful mentor to all young aspiring authors.

I've known Megan for 6 years now and she is one of the most dedicated and trustworthy people I know! Her talent and love for English is clear to anyone who meets her. I have never seen Megan unfriendly or anything less than the bubbly, smiling face she's known for.
