I'm a very interactive professor who likes to ask questions to validate learning as we work through problems together. Chemistry is a three-legged stool combining concepts, facts, and mathematics...its important to gauge understanding in all 3 in order to be successful.
While I'm most experienced in teaching college, I am happy to explain to those in Middle School or High School as well. I love using silly analogies that help relay core concepts in common language, that I believe help those throughout all facets of life.
Currently teaching General Chemistry for scientists and engineers (3 semesters).
Teaching Assistant for molecular genetics for 2 years.
Tutored chemistry and organic chemistry as an undergraduate.
Have seen students first hand move up multiple grade levels through helping them understand the core concepts of how to read, interpret, and understand scientific problems.
B.S. Chemistry, Biology University of Cincinnati (2004-2008)
Ph.D. Chemical Biology, University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign (2008-2013)
Have worked with design of ion-selective electrodes (chemical equilibria, binding, electrochemistry), biopolymers (DNA, RNA, Proteins), spectroscopy (especially NMR), and biosensors that measure affinity among other experiences.
Department of Homeland Security Research Fellow (2008-2011)
NIH Chemical Biology Interface Training Program, Trainee (2008-2013)
Selected talk at the 2012 Midwest Microbial Pathogenesis Conference (1 of 2)
