Methodology

I believe in countering the traditional teaching methods of the banking system while also creating a space for students to grow and be engaged on their level of understanding and learning style. I am also great at incorporating hands-on methods of learning.

I received my undergraduate degree in Animal Science/ Industry, my masters in Agriculture Education as well as my PhD. in Agricultural, Leadership, and Community Education. 6 Years of experience teaching in both formal and informal settings. Students take well to my approach and always leave knowing more than what was expected.

(Graduate Assistant) Civic Agriculture & Food Systems Minor

Courses: ALS 2204 Civic Agriculture & ALS 4204 Concepts of Community Food Systems
Explored the economic, social, and ecological foundations of civic agriculture, a broad based and interdisciplinary framework that is associated with the revitalization of local and regional food systems. We also explore issues relevant to the development of civic agriculture in the United States, including industrialization, globalization, sustainable agriculture, food security, and food democracy. Emphasis is given to models, strategies, and hands-on approaches used to establish, build, and strengthen our community, food and farming systems.

(Community Organizer) Appalachian Foodshed Project

Conducted open ended narrative inquiries of an organization that focuses on
food security in low-income minority communities of Asheboro, NC. I also edited
the official website and organized with a group of both academic and community
specialists to organize citizens of Draper, VA and surrounding areas to discuss
social issues within our food systems.

Provides minority undergraduates from other various universities with the opportunity to conduct research with graduate and faculty mentors, to be presented at the end of the program. Also, students are given a GRE course to help them pass the test for admission into the graduate school programs which require GRE scores.
