I blend my classes with lectures which discusses the course materials and problem solving activities. I try to make the classes fun by discussing the concepts with the students, designing multiple activities related to key lesson outcomes. I also give some home-tasks whenever it's needed. I encourage the student to think about the problems and come up with their own approach to solve it using what they have already learnt in the classes. I prefer to be more of a guide and less of a boring teacher!
I first make a list of objectives of what we have to cover in the class. I will organize multiple activities related to the lesson key outcomes. I will conduct an oral assessment at the end of the class to check what improvements are needed to make lessons more effective. I will also conduct a written assessment after the completion of the exercise. I take an approach where I assess the student what he already knows and what is needed of the lecture.
I am an astrophysics PhD student at the University of Massachusetts. I am also a visiting scholar to the University of California Santa Barbara. I have extensive teaching experiences as a teaching assistant during my Masters (one year) and as a volunteer teacher in a NGO-run night-school (three years). Additionally, I am co-advising (along with my Professor) two undergraduate students for their honors thesis.
