I have 13 years experience teaching grades 9-12 in virtually every Language Arts subject, from American literature to British, from public speaking to journalism, and from honors to remedial. My lessons depend on a student's needs; the most common lessons that I have given are on study strategies (e.g. how to approach and decipher a text), grammar / mechanics, persuasive writing, and conducting research. Students have often described as patient, "deep," funny, and caring.
On average, I've been responsible for 120 students each year, making a total of approximately 1,560 who I've taught. As far as results, those, too, depend on students. For some, the goal is to get an "A" on their honors research paper. For others, it's to "just pass" a class.
I have a bachelor's degree in English, a master's degree in creative writing, and I have been the proud recipient and/or nominee of 7 teaching awards, 6 of which occurring in my most recent 9 years: I won The Lower Paxton Township Lions Club Teacher Recognition Award in 2016, I was nominated for The Russell Galt Award for Outstanding Teaching at the Secondary Level in 2015, I was selected as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction in 2014, I was honored as a Central Dauphin “Difference Maker” in 2010, 2011, and 2013, and I won The NY State Blaine DeLancey Award for Teaching Excellence in 1999.
