I review material and practice problems until they have a strong grasp of the concepts. If I explain an idea in a manner that wasn’t sinking in, I alter my approach or my language until it did. I personalize the subject with examples relevant to a student's own life so that they grasp the material faster and remember it longer.
I am a former Cross-Country and Track Athlete at Baylor. I ran the 800m, 1500m, 5k, and 6k with the teams. I tutored 2 students in Chemistry in college and recently took the MCAT exam for Medical School. I also have worked with elementary school kids tutoring math and science.
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to express my interest for the Biology Tutoring position. Currently applying to Medical School, I am looking for an opportunity that would allow me grow my teaching abilities while studying courses that interest me. If given the opportunity, I will prove my passion for learning and strive to be better at my job than the day before.
I graduated from Baylor University in 2018 with a B.S. in Biology, minoring in Spanish and Biochemistry. As a student athlete on the track and cross-country teams, I had to utilize my time efficiently between athletics and academics. I am responsible, organized, and a motivated worker. While at Baylor, I was employed as an undergraduate research assistant in a toxicology lab where I was able to gain research experience studying the effects of environmental pollutants on cellular functions. I learned and practiced lab techniques by splitting, culturing, and exposing cancer cells to chemicals and analyzing the effects. I tutored Chemistry to a couple students with Apollo Tutors in college and would love to engage in another similar job.
Following college, I moved from Waco, Texas to Maui, Hawaii for a year and a half. I worked in retail sales at Lululemon, as a Food Runner in a restaurant, and as a concierge assisting travelers with scheduling needs. These jobs developed my communication and customer-service skills, time and stress management, and reliability in a work environment. Though these jobs are not medically related, I believe that this broad range of work experience has given me a well-rounded perspective in interacting with others and adjusting quickly to various obstacles.
As a pre-medical student, my free time was consumed with shadowing physicians and surgeons around Waco and volunteering in clinics such as the Family Health Center. I was able to develop an understanding of the medical setting but am eager to learn more. If there are any other jobs or internships that may be a better fit, I would really appreciate the opportunity to meet and discuss them. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions you may have. I look forward to speaking with you further. Thank you so much for your consideration.
