As a tutor, I will always identify the objective with the student(s) through a quick evaluation of the student's level, interest, and goal of language acquisition. As a teacher, I always create lessons based on what students respond to and what produces high input. This may include a mix of visual aids (videos, songs, interviews, documentaries, TV series, and movies) paired with oral and writing exercises. I usually like to introduce vocabulary and grammar structures in context before delving into how the grammar structure is used in Spanish and reviewing its English counterpart. What really counts is effort, and I like to support my students' efforts by guiding them along as they speak and always circling back the vocabulary students use.
I was born in Santiago, Chile and lived there until I was six. I have been living in the US for 21 years. During my undergrad career, I majored in Spanish with a Latin American Studies minor and studied abroad in Argentina in 2016. I am currently a high school Spanish teacher at a private school in Maryland. I teach approximately 30 students, and manage a total of 4 classes, 3 of which are honors courses. I have experience teaching levels 1-4, and I have a strong background in grammar concepts, conversational topics, and short stories in Spanish. My goal is always to engage and produce high input through creative and memorable lessons.
