Language tutoring, for me, is all about sharing my own passion. As a true lover of the French language and of French culture--and as a student of the French language myself, who became fluent after having started to study the language at the relatively late age of 14-- consider myself an expert in guiding native English speakers through the often-challenging but always-rewarding terrain of learning French as a second language. As a French learner myself, I remember the aspects of French grammar and syntax that can be trickiest for native English speakers and my toolbelt is full of tips and tricks for overcoming those hurdles! I teach by combining grammar basics with reading comprehension, conversation practice, and engagement with French culture (whether that be podcasts, films, TV shows, articles or books) to not just pass along knowledge but also spark excitement and cultural curiosity in my students. No matter what your level, I can't wait to help you become as excited about improving your French as I am!
I graduated from Yale in May with a double major in French and Theatre Studies. I am deeply passionate about both teaching and foreign language study and have extensive experience as a tutor and teacher, having tutored since I was in high school and spent summers for the past 5 years teaching and directing students in summer Shakespeare Camps. Recently, I've branched out and helped a number of clients of all ages and linguistic levels to improve their understanding of French grammar as well as their oral and written comprehension and expression.
I charge an increased rate of $25/hour for lessons involving significant prep time (e.g. teaching an advanced grammatical concept to a student with no pre-existing knowledge of the concept). I don't charge for cancelled lessons unless the cancellation is made later than 1 hour before the scheduled lesson time.
