My goal is to help you learn not only biochemistry, but also how to teach yourself, and I want to figure out how you learn best. We can work together to enable you to better tackle your classes, learn your learning style, and how to study most efficiently.
We can meet together, and I will help you through your questions, homework, or reading. I NEVER give students answers, but I will guide you there and help you learn the material and problem-solving techniques.
I can tutor, but what I really want to do is enable students to take charge of their education, understand the material, and know how to gain knowledge for themselves.
I am a recently graduated biochemist (Summa Cum Laude), and I'm looking to keep my biochemistry skills sharp while I'm away from the industry. I am a CRLA Level 1 certified tutor, and I have more than 400 hours of tutoring under my belt.

o Thesis: This paper focuses on the features and biological activity of botulinum neurotoxins, including posttranslational modifications, biochemical mechanisms resulting in toxic activity, and potential developments in the therapeutic uses of botulinum neurotoxins
o Outcome: Multiple serotypes of botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs) exist; the active holotoxin has two chains that dissociate upon entry into infected cell; BoNT catalytic activity is caused by a zinc endopeptidase; the substrate of BoNT A is SNAP-25; although extensively studied, biochemical mechanisms of BoNTs are not fully understood; therapeutic applications of BoNTs are possible because of the high specificity of BoNTs

o “Expression and Regulation of lacZ in the lac Operon in E. coli”
o Thesis: The β-galactosidase system was tested to study gene expression of the lacZ part of the lac operon in response to different stimuli
o Outcomes: lacZ- mutants are not sensitive to the inducer IPTG; increasing concentrations of IPTG do not increase β-galactosidase production in wild-type cells; in the presence of glucose, expression of the lacZ operon increases with IPTG concentration; fructose inhibits the lac operon

o Hypothesis: Vab-7 mutants will display phenotypic and behavioral differences compared to wild-type
o Outcomes: Vab-7 displayed tail abnormalities, increased pausing, decreased backing, slow forward movement, and variant chemotaxis; the Vab-7 gene is necessary for posterior-specific embryo formation, wild-type movement, and wild-type chemotaxis
