Biology Professor specializing in genetics, microbiology, ecology, and general science education offers lessons and tutoring to high school and college students in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin

Methodology

I am currently obtaining my Ph.D. in adult and continuing education with a minor in science education. However I have been a college professor in the UW-College system for over 12 years. I have a passion for education and truly love working with students to understand the world around us.

I have taught at both the college, and high-school level with a few lessons for grade-school students thrown in. I mainly focus on lecture based instruction but I am proficient in distance and online education as well. I also use hands on laboratory instruction whenever possible.

I am a firm believer that everyone learns differently, and each individual has their own strengths and weaknesses when it comes to understanding a topic. Some learn better visually, while others need a hands on approach. When it comes to teaching science, I find making an effort to tackle all types of learning critical. There are so many ways for people to understand something, so making use of as many techniques as possible just makes sense!

Background

I've been teaching for over 12 years at the college level. I have also acted as a substitute instructor at the high-school level and offered outdoor laboratories to grade-school students. I have worked with class sizes ranging from 5-6 students all the way up to 70+ students in one class. Most students that have offered evaluations have given me high praise as an instructor, with many saying that I opened their eyes to biology and made it much more approachable as a subject! I work hard with my students to make sure the education they receive not only helps them advance their careers, but also lets them understand some of the workings of the living world around us.
