While going to the gym for many people seems like a no brainer, there are even more people around the country that don’t go. For one reason or another people decide not to go to the gym. Or better said most Americans don’t exercise the recommended amount of hours, while a large percentage do not exercise at all.

 This is a problem that plagues our country as we deal with a massive obesity problem. Being in a well-managed state of physical health is very important for our day-to-day lives. Many people think going to the gym is just about having good looks but our health is important. 

Not only should we think about exercise and working out for our bodies but for our minds as well. Going to the gym and exercises are huge benefits for working out. You can feel happy with yourself about going to the gym and really enjoy the benefits of pushing yourself to go and achieving some goals. 

Exercising shouldn’t be about trying to impress other people, it’s about feeling good about yourself and making yourself healthy. So let’s look at what can hold us back from going to the gym and the reasons we should go to the gym and become the best versions of ourselves.

Some gyms are very expensive, that is definitely true and perhaps some of the lower cost ones seem very basic. It’s completely normal to feel as if gyms won’t fit into your budget when a lot of gyms are expensive due to the amenities that they promise. However, nowadays there are many different types of gyms.

Feeling of intimidation

If you are someone not in shape the feeling of standing in a room with a bunch of fit people or muscular hunks can be extremely intimidating. However, we must also think about the fact that none of the muscular hunks at the gym started out that way and worked hard to get that way.

Scheduling Conflicts 

A very normal reason to not go to the gym could be your schedule. If you have a very busy work schedule it can be very difficult to find time to make it to the gym. Or perhaps you have children that need your attention or another person that depends on you. It can be very difficult to find time to make it to the gym.

If you cannot make it to the gym or your feeling of insecurity is too great it may be beneficial to think about hiring a personal trainer. Planet Fitness isn’t the only low-priced gym that you can find around the United States. There are some gyms that have very low prices, good facilities and are even open 24 hours 7 days a week. The cost of gyms doesn’t have to be an excuse. 

If you want a workout without becoming a bodybuilder and money isn’t that big of an issue then one of these gyms would also be perfect as a way for you to save money. Most of us would like to buy a car or house at some point while trying to keep in shape. Going to one of these gyms would give you the chance to have your cake and eat it too. 

Better physical health

Perhaps the main reason anyone wants to go to the gym is to get into great shape. Unfortunately in the United States, it’s not a secret that people around the country have an obesity problem. Not being obese also doesn’t mean you have a clean bill of health. Working out can do wondrous things for your body such as lowering cholesterol and blood pressure. 

Or maybe you just want to look like a model and your goal is having great abs or biceps. While this is a more superficial approach working out is the best way to do it using weights and machines at the gym. Remember to eat well as well, if not the hard work in the gym will count for much less in the end. 

Socializing at the gym

At the gym you can also make friends. Nowadays group classes at the gym are all the rage. Body pump, spinning and other types of classes are really popular as well and you can get a great workout in. However group classes are not just great for exercise, they’re also great for meeting new people. 

When you do group classes whether it’s something that is fast-paced or yoga, meeting friends during or after the classes is something that happens a lot in gyms. If you feel that you want to make some friends the gym is a fantastic way to do so as well. 

The gym can improve your mental health

Not only is the gym amazing for your physical health your mental health can also improve. The gym can give you a feeling of accomplishment and desire as you strive to reach your goals. Those battling with feelings of depression or those who did not want to eat have had their minds changed thanks to going to the gym. 

The gym isn’t only about trying to get fit to look good to impress other people, people who love the gym the most are those who become really driven to accomplish goals made at the gym. If you are looking for a way to feel good about yourself and goals to accomplish and feel driven, going to the gym can be great for you. 

Finding an excuse to not go to the gym is really easy, however going to the gym can make you both physically and mentally a better person.
