Tom has a very musical and practical approach to teaching. He places a lot of emphasis on phrasing, articulation, and musical form, and explains these concepts in a very clear and understandable way. What I appreciate most is that concepts like appoggiaturas and triads are immediately applied to real tunes instead of being treated as dry theory exercises.

This makes everything highly audible and musical from the beginning, while reducing unnecessary theoretical overload. Lessons feel focused, inspiring, and directly connected to actual playing and improvisation. I can highly recommend Tom to anyone who wants to develop not only technical skills, but also a deeper musical understanding and sound.

I have been taking lessons with Tom for more than 2 yeas. He's taken me from a guitar novice through many jazz songs and standards and taught me improvisation from the ground up. I've learned about chord melody, interpreting harmony, many many many ideas for improvising and stringing together a solo. I'm still hard at work and there's a lot to do. Jazz is enjoyable and difficult and I'm happy to have found Tom to lead me through this learning journey! Highly recommend Tom.
