Certified English Language Arts teacher with two master's degrees in education and experience both with teaching adults in literacy, GED courses, and work place learning, and with teaching high school

Methodology

My teaching method follows the I do, we do, y'all do, you do approach to teaching when I am teaching. In other words, I model what I want my students to learn, then we do what I just modeled, then the students do what I modeled without me, and then the students will individually demonstrate how to do what I modeled. During my lessons, I use a lot of technology based assessments, graphic organizers, anticipation guides, Think-A-Louds, and other assessments in order to show if individual students have mastered the material that I have taught. Before teaching students, I always ascertain if students are kinesthetic, visual, or oratory learners, and then I plan my lessons to best suit my students. When I introduce new material, I make sure to relate the new material to something that the students already know and to something that the students are interested in.

Background

I am a teacher and a life long learner. In the recent past, I have tutored high school and middle school students from all grade levels in reading, writing, and in ACT preparation. I have a B.A. degree in English Literature, I have a M.S. in Adult Education with a focus on curriculum and design, and I have a M.A.E. in Secondary Education with a focus on English Language Arts. I have taught illiterate students in their 70's to read, I have taught English Language Arts classes in middle school and high school, and I have taught GED courses.
