I am slightly new to tutoring but am a certified English teacher for grades 7-12. I have 4 years experience as a middle school and high school English teacher both full time substitute and long term substitute and as a student teacher.

As a student I always found it most helpful to write with the tone I used to communicate in person, so I try to emphasize to students how to find their voice and own flow to their writing. I care most about having a student feel like their work completely embodies their voice and perspective while still incorporating jargon.
