I am a traditional teacher in the classroom. I present a lesson through lecture and example. I assign practice.problems, and I give students time to work.on the assignment in class. This provides the opportunity to ask questions while they work on a new concept. I review all assigned work with the class out loud, and work any problems the students have questions about. When tutoring a student privately, i go over the concept that is being covered by showing how to work problems. I also discuss all aspects relevant to the concept. Then I walk the student through an example. And then I encourage the student to try a problem on their own. I prefer students show all of their work on paper, step by step. And I discourage the use of calculators until the student is in Geometry or Algebra II. I believe anyone can learn any math. It is the teacher's responsibility to figure out how the student processes information and cater the lessons to that method of learning. It is the student's responsibility to try and not give up or copy other's work. Mistakes are common and are normal. Mistakes are how we learn. And I fully expect mistakes on homework/practice problems. Exams are traditional paper/pencil in my classroom and are given when I feel the class as a whole has mastered what ever concept we are studying.
I am a middle/high school teacher certified in Middle School math, Middle School science, and High School business. I taught for over 20 years in various public and private schools. I have a BS in Accounting from Arkansas State University and an MEd from Louisiana Tech University. Even though I have 3 subject area certifications, my first love is math, particularly Algebra I and Algebra II. Most recently I was a Level 2 Instructor for Mathnasium of Benton/Bryant. But, I have been tutoring Algebra I and up since I was a high school freshman in 1985. I can help you get a firm foundation in upper level mathematics which will carry over to every math class you will take from middle school to college.
Hallie has helped a number of learners over her career. As a colleague and administrator of Hallie, I saw her deliver engaging math lessons with successful results to all levels of learners. She knows how to differentiate instruction for different learning styles and can teach advanced math levels. I have no reservations in recommending Hallie as a tutor or instructor. She is a true content specialists and a pedagogy expert.
