My teaching approach varies depending on the student and the learning style a student has. Rather than working on things that a student is already strong in, I like to narrow in on the trouble areas, give some small drawn-out explanations, and to answer questions in a way that anyone can understand.
I am currently a senior at Whittier College majoring in biochemistry with a minor in mathematics. I have a good GPA, and have been tutoring students of all ages for the past four years. I have worked on various research projects, and am currently working in Quantum Mechanics and nanoparticle research.
My pricing is usually pretty straightforward, no cancellation policy, just let me know if anything comes up, I totally understand. First lesson is free, as I just want to get to know my students and get a general idea of how they learn, what material they want help on, and to develop a studying plan for them.

Dear Hiring Team,
Years of passionate study in chemistry and physics have guided me toward biochemistry research as a career goal. My related coursework in in chemistry, biology, and mathematics have driven me to participate in various undergraduate research projects thus far. Particularly, my research in biochemistry and physical chemistry have greatly developed my interest and appreciation for chemical biology as a field of research.
Currently, I am a senior at Whittier College majoring in biochemistry with a minor in mathematics. Having already taken many upper division chemistry and biology courses, I feel that a strong tutoring schedule is well suited toward my academic background. I have excelled in a wide range of academic coursework within the scope of chemistry, biology, physics, and mathematics. Moreover, I have participated in various research projects that have further developed my hands-on experience with chemistry. I have conducted research in organic synthesis, biochemical brain cancer research with the Mayo Clinic, silver nanoparticle synthesis, as well as an ongoing quantum mechanics research project at Harvard. Skills in organization, detail-oriented work, critical thinking, and strong interpersonal communication skills are instrumental in my current research environments.
I have tutored young students at the Whittier Area Literacy Council, and have privately tutored various STEM university students throughout my undergraduate studies. Beyond my passion for teaching, I believe that this experience will improve my ability to teach undergraduate courses during my Ph.D. progress.
Sincerely,
Shan Zhang Deneen
