My teaching method is to explain concepts first, and then go over every example that could be considered unique that may need a different approach. After exploring each different type of problem, I would try to provide a problem that combines different concepts to see if the student could synthesize all of the relevant information. If they could not complete it, I would try to prompt them until they got the answer. If they still failed to complete the problem, I would go over it in depth.
