I studied piano with Hans-Dieter Meyer-Moortgat in Germany and with Charles Asche in Santa Barbara. I have taught high school music, played for ballet companies and church services and accompanied singers and instrumentalists. Currently I perform at various venues in the LA area and constantly strive to expand my repertoire. I also compose and have written a treatise on music appreciation and theory.
I will teach all serious-minded piano students no matter what level or age. I ground my teaching in original methods from Mozart's time and am flexible to adapt to my students' interests.
I have been continually teaching piano since 1990. I can help you prepare for exams, if that is what you wish. Lessons will include notation, sight reading, theory (which is nothing more than understanding what you are doing when you play), arranging, improvisation, technique, interpretation, memorization, developing a sense of style, and building a solid and varied repertoire. The basis of music is of course the creation of a beautiful sound filled with expressive and evocative power. A performer's challenge is to create such a tone and transmit it to the audience.
Actually, $50 for 40 minutes at your home, or $45 for 30 minutes and $75 for 60 minutes at the studio in PV.
