I believe that tutoring should be tackled in a very subjective manner, therefore communication is vital for a successful session. Some students may learn more visually while others pick up concepts through procedural and/or a more audio focused method. It is imperative to understand that each student works at their own pace. I believe that if the tutor is able to better understand what the student is having difficulty with, he/she will be able to provide a more beneficial session. I would rather a student understand a concept at its core than to simply figure out the answer to one question. What I have found to be very successful during the latter half of a session is to ask the student to teach me what I have taught them, in order to ensure that they have fully taken in the concept.
