I started my path researching the coevolution of corbiculate bees and their gut microbiota. My research experience and laboratory techniques helped me secure a summer internship with a focus on water quality for captive Eurycea salamanders (Eurycea spp). By the end of my senior year of college, I acquired a vast knowledge of the natural world and the skills to research it.
Partially due to the continuing advances in biotechnology, we are at a new age were Biology is as fundamental as is mathematics.
As a teacher, I will show the way of the Force young Padawan... in all seriousness, think about it. What is holding the Universe together? What is holding your DNA in a double helix and why? What Forces are involved in the DNA replication machinery of a single cell? In addition, there is so much in life that questions "general" knowledge. Think about a circle; it requires that every point of its circumference is equidistant to the center... can this geometrical structure exist? Have you ever since a "perfect" circle in your life? The sun nor the pupil of your eye is perfect... Only when you dive into the micro-world can you find almost "perfect" symmetry, but even then, a circle is simply a concept (one of many) that helps us understand our natural world.
I have about 2 years of experience teaching Biology and Evolution to college students.
For a younger audience, I used to provide swimming lessons. (Perhaps a little off track from Biology, but jumping to a 10 feet pool for the first time was extremely scary and anxiety-inducing for many students). Thus, Biology is similar to swimming for the time; there is a discipline that needs to be master.
