College-level Writing Tutor and Instructor in University Park available for remote work

Methodology

I believe in student writers. As a first-generation college graduate, I know that the conventions of academic writing can be baffling or even intimidating. Helping students develop confidence--in their skills as writers, and in their ideas--is my goal as a tutor and instructor. I have worked alongside students in all stages of the writing process, from research and development to revision and refinement, across disciplines and majors. Additionally, I have five years of experience in tutoring English Language Learners (ELL).

Background

In five years of college-level tutoring and instruction, I have worked with students in traditional classroom settings and one-on-one tutorials, and as a facilitator for small groups of student writers. Much of my work has focused on helping students become familiar with conventions of college writing--from research and the development of ideas in a writing project, to citation practices in MLA and APA styles. My students have drawn on their skills to create work that is meaningful to them, as in investigative reports and profiles of family artifacts. Additionally, I have had the good luck to work alongside students as they drafted and refined documents that served their futures: in a successful application to a dream school, and supporting essays toward a study abroad trip.
