I have been drawing and participating in the arts my entire life. My major educational accomplishments are as follows:
B of A in Graphic Design-Art Institute of Phoenix, Phoenix, AZ
Fine Art undergraduate courses-Allegheny College, Meadville, PA
Numerous Fine Art Classes and Seminars from around the USA
Current public charter high school art/ art humanities/ art history teacher
I firmly believe that "Art" is a teachable skill. Art does not necessarily need to be beautiful. It does, however, need to be meaningful to be considered Art. My lessons are geared to the individual student and need to be relevant to them in order to be fully embraced by the person striving to improve their current level of expertise artistically.
I began giving lessons on a small scale several years ago. The past three years have been occupied with my teaching high school level art classes to students who, in many cases, had no previous formal art instruction. My first challenge with many of them was to convince them that "Yes" they could draw.
I believe that drawing is a way of seeing. This is accomplished with various learning exercises and built on a foundation of learning that includes the elements and principles of art. Art is an important integral part of our lives. An understanding and appreciation for art enhances our thinking capacity by offering new paradigms for problem solving and thinking creatively.
Many of my recent students stop by my classroom, send me notes and take the time to tell me or show me that they are still drawing. Some are continuing their college plans based around their personal interests in various art pursuits. There is always interest in learning more for a good number of them which has resulted in developing more advanced drawing and painting classes at our high school.
I also offer group rates for one time or short term lesson sessions for young adults and adults of all ages. Please feel free to contact me to discuss your individual or group desires and interests.
Sandy is one of the most hard working and caring teachers I kown. She decided to take this job because she wanted to give back to the community; and that decision has made the school a better place. The students and faculty both have the upmost respect for her and her efforts. Sandy is always looking to improve her instruction and put the students first. I have never heard a negative thing about her both personally and professionally. She is a team player that can be relied upon to accomplish any task given to her. It is a pleasure to work with her and I hope to have that opportunity for as long as possible.
