My teaching methods are entirely individualized, but the general approach is one of curiosity -- rather than just telling my students what to do, I tell them why, what for, and why it's important, as well as prompt them with questions for their own growth and initiative. I seek to establish a solid technical foundation, matched with musical standards of good taste and tradition.
I'm a professional musician, just finished my Masters degree at New England Conservatory, after finishing my Bachelor's at the Curtis Institute of Music. I've been playing for 21 years and teaching for 6, and absolutely adore sharing with my students the beauty of music!

My son is an advanced 14 year old violinist who participates in string competitions yearly. He has been studying with Maria Ioudenitch for several years now, though he has met her a few years earlier, when she was asked to help prepare him for an international competition in Italy. She spent several weeks working with a 9 year old boy intensively, which made a tremendous difference in his preparation and performance. He told me then: if only she didn't have to leave Kansas and go back to college, she would be the only teacher for me! She is patient and supportive and yet she encourages the student to keep improving until the resulting sound is perfect, granting my son the satisfaction of acknowledging the reward of hard work, which the violin demands.
I highly recommend Maria as a violin teacher. She is not only a phenomenal violinist but also a meticulous teacher who points out every detail you need to improve in violin playing. She is extremely knowledgeable so that she can identify what you need to work on and design the teaching around it. She is also both very passionate and patient in teaching. She will spend lots of effort to work with you to develop good bow techniques and relaxed left hand. Furthermore, she does not merely teach you violin playing. Through her teaching, I feel like I grow better appreciation of classical music in general and express myself better in piano playing as well. I grow tremendously both as a violinist and as a music lover with Maria and I sincerely recommend her to people who want to learn violin at any levels!
