About

I have served in many roles in the broad field of childhood and adult education, including classroom teacher, reading specialist, resource teacher, staff development coordinator, and school principal. I have worked on many initiatives with teachers, schools, and parents across the county to improve student progress towards the Common Core Standards. My 20 years of experience in a large PK-12 school district as well as my role as a CEO of a small charter school give me the unique ability to address the dynamic needs of students, subject matter competency, provide quality resources to parents and students, and knowledge of special education compliance and California education standards.

After completing my bachelor’s degree at San Diego State University, I spent a year in Mexico teaching English to native Spanish speakers. In addition to a master’s degree, I hold a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and a California Administrative Services Credential. I am certified as a Reading Recovery teacher, having participated in a yearlong graduate-level training course in the theory and practice of early literacy instruction ("Reading Recovery" is a registered trademark of The Ohio State University). I grew up in San Diego and now reside in Carlsbad with my husband and our two daughters who are in college and come home during school breaks (which we wish were more frequent:)).
