Current doctoral student (bachelors in neuroscience + chemistry) with seven years of experience teaching ages 5 - 25

Methodology

Problem solving is not just a math skill! Figuring out how to best teach rests upon the following principles:
-understanding what pre-existing knowledge my student has
-identify the gaps in understanding between prior knowledge and current material
-help the student absorb the appropriate information by a scaffolded approach (providing sufficient, but minimal, guidance)

Background

I have always loved to teach; we ourselves learn deeper by teaching! I received my B.S. in Neuroscience with a chemistry minor, during which time I was a teaching assistant (teaching and holding review sessions) for 4 classes. In my doctoral degree, I have taught my own course as well as continued as a teaching assistant. I am also a part of the Graduate Teaching Program, where we learn about the best practices for effective teaching and learning.
