By doing practice problems and different sorts of them I find that the more you do the types of problems you are struggling with the easier they become to understand and easier to memorize the steps you need to take.
A typical lesson plan would consist of asking the student what they need help with specifically. If there is a concept that needs more understanding we will break it down. As well as being able to go over all sorts of concepts.
