Devoted educational assistant with over 15 years of tutoring experience in Memphis, Tn

Methodology

My teaching methodology is based in constructivism. I believe that not all individuals learn or process information the same way and learning should reflect those differences. Some of those differences can be influenced through differentiated instruction, where the curriculum is adjusted in hopes of actively engaging all students.

Background

I have worked in the education field since my junior year od high school in 1998. This journey started with an after-school care program, in partnership with Yo!Memphis. I tutored elementary-aged studnets with homework and helped facilitate activites. I then began to tutor my peers while still in high school. After graduation and enrollment at University of Memphis, I was able to acquire a position in the English Department Writing Center. Graduate and undergraduate tudents who needed assistance with proper writing skills and thesis papers were able to utilize this service. I was also employed as an after school care teacher at Grace St. Luke's Episcopal School. From there, I continued my educational assistant journey as a substitute teacher with, then, Memphis City Schools, which allowed me to become a permanent sub with the University of Memphis Campus School. As my family started to grow, I became a stay-at-home mom until my children went to preschool. During this time i continued to tutor students whose parents knew my educational background. I was then employed with KIPP Collegiate Schools as a educational assistant/Interim Lead Teacher/Art Teacher. From there, I became a paraprofessional and later Pre-k assistant at Dexter Elementary.
