Through and examination of these works students were able to get a deeper understanding of important British and American literary works. They were able to get critical insights of human frailties and the duality of human nature. More importantly through a close reading of these texts and by critical analysis they were able to appreciate how these human weakness can influence and compromise our very nature and lead us to consequences that are detrimental to our best interests in spite of our better judgement. These works also gave students an in depth understanding of both British and American values and how these values help us to understand and make sense of life.

Students were also able to learn how to critically examine literary works and how to analyze, discuss and develop the ability to present arguments in support of positions they take relative to the interpretation of these literary works.
