Methodology

I am a middle school guidance counselor certified pK-12 is the states of RI, MA, and HI. I have a background with Masters and Advanced Degrees in Educational Psychology as well as Counseling. I have worked with both special education and regular education students. I have also tutored middle school math and reading. I am looking to continue tutoring Elementary School and Middle School math and reading.

Background

I have done tutoring through my counseling positions for the last 10 years. Most recently I have tutored a student in preparation for 6th grade in math and reading. I use a very calm and patient approach to build rapport with the student and then to focus on strengths and weaknesses in academics.

I was in charge of the 6th grade students this year, and ran lunch bunch groups, did individual counseling, student mediations, held parent teacher conferences, and attended SpEd. and 504 meetings, created team placements for next school year, and assisted with state test preparation and administration.

School Counselor- Lahaina Intermediate School. I worked as a tenured School Counselor in a middle school on Maui, grades 6-8. This is was a very culturally diverse population with groups such as Hawaiian, Filipino, Japanese, Tongan, Samoan, Mexican, and Caucasian. I started in the position, for the 2011-2012 school year, during which I was the 7th grade level counselor, and moved up with the students until they left for high school. The job was a balance of individual counseling, group counseling including peer mediation and special groups such as grief groups. In addition, I was the gatekeeper with regards to academics. I initiated referrals for assessment, scheduled and held all parent teacher conferences for my grade level, coordinated with parents, teachers, and administration, tracked attendance records, worked with the Special Education and English Language Learner programs, and assisted with career education/planning.
