Energetic singer/songwriter who wants to help teach others to build their musical skills

Methodology

I base my classes on a few key things: warm-ups, technique-focused repertoire, and music theory. Even if you're just warming up with a pentatonic scales, vowels, or singing an entire song, warming the voice up is an important part of singing and playing and it keeps your cords happy and healthy!
Taking a few minutes to focus on your breathing/ or fingering and technique can be the difference between making music for hours or having to stop from a strain.
Moving on to the repertoire is more than just singing the chosen songs. I want every kind of student to approach each song as an actor would a script. It's about internalizing that song completely. It's about taking the time to analyze the lyric, the emotion, and its intent, and then combining that with a focused technique to create aural magic.
I like to end each lesson with a bit of theory (unless I already used it to explain the musical concepts throughout the lesson) and there are a few reasons why. Mainly, I believe it's imperative for any serious musician to understanding the language. Especially in such a competitive industry, the skills of analyzation and sight-singing are crucial to success; making the creative process a lot smoother and inevitably more creative.
Secondly and most important to me, I want to help rid the world of the stereotype that singers don't understand the music they're singing!
We see at the earliest of ages, that children who play physical instruments are held accountable for learning to read/analyze the music in order to play the correct notes. This creates that mental connection to understanding music that continues to grow and benefit them throughout their years. In contrast, while vocalists are also taught the basics of theory, it is not a mandatory focus (especially in group settings like school). As a result, a good voice tends to slip through accountability and progress into the music world for years without having to show or even make it a priority. To some, it's not a huge deal, but from personal experience, I have found that singers don't get as much respect due to the assumption that we all lack knowledge of the musical language. And at a collegiate level, not having that skill can decide whether or not one gets to participate in the elite musical groups which help them build connection and further their career. So I make it my mission to make sure every young singer understands that and strives to be at the same level as their future classmates and coworkers!

Background

I am a singer/songwriter/composer. I have a background in all musical genres and I especially love to write and perform contemporary, pop, rock, R&B, and theater. But I'm open to teaching whatever you're interested in learning! My focus started with Jazz vocal students, but I have been fortunate enough to have students who all want to share and better their songwriting skills!

Jazz is America's very first musical art form and it has not only inspired many genres globally but it has influenced many popular genres we listen to today. I recommend studying jazz to any student who is interested in immersing themselves into understanding the knowledge and beauty that goes into creating music, or any student who wants to one day become a professional musician. Nothing could prepare you better for the future music world than having grasped the jazz idiom. I learned my immense amount of knowledge while studying Studio Music and Jazz Vocal Performance at the University of Miami.

From my time there I have developed an even greater passion for music than I had before I went to college (whether I'm singing or writing the music and/or lyrics or a song). More so, I have gained a passion for making music with others (collaboratively and as a director). Now that I have finished school I think it would be truly rewarding to have the opportunity to show others what I know and potentially inspire them to further pursue a long lasting career in the world of music.

Let me know if you're interested in building skills in music composition, general music, lyric writing, music theory, songwriting, voice, piano

I want to help fuel your musical drive in anyway that I can!
