My teaching method involves discussing and dissecting the way my tutees approach their work [whether this be reading or writing an essay], in order to understand why they might be experiencing difficulty, so that we can work together to restructure or build upon their current skills, something that they can then continue to do individually.
For lesson structure, I begin my lessons with a discussion about where the student is finding difficulties, then follow this with instruction on how to combat these difficulties, followed by putting these new methods into practice and observing their effectiveness. In each lesson I aim to target a different area of the subject [for example, for essay writing, I would target Essay Structure by looking at Introductions & Conclusions, Developing Context, Providing Relevant Evidence and Thorough Textual Analysis] in each lesson, providing detailed instruction and knowledge which I have accumulated throughout school and during university.
I think it is imperative that individual/small group tutoring provides an opportunity for students to discuss their difficulties in a way that they may not be able to in a school classroom where each individual voice is less likely to be heard. This makes tutoring more specific and thus beneficial to each tutee and I strive to bring that to my teaching.

My son was struggling with GCSE English Lit last year, and a friend of mine recommended Madeline as a tutor.
