English prof. with over 20 years experience at all levels is offering English Composition and Literature/Humanities lessons in LA.

Methodology

If there is one concise characterization of both my administrative approach and philosophy of education, it is as old as Horace’s edict to “teach through delight.” Both teaching and learning may be a struggle, but it contains an exquisite joy as well. In a similar vein, I have always had a positive mindset and the view that if one wants to teach a mind, one must have a mind to teach. I believe in setting high standards, differentiating and scaffolding instruction as necessary, breaking up periods with varied activities, so as to gain maximum student engagement, incorporating a flipped classroom and establishing an academic environment where students are more invested in questions, rather than fearing to raise their hand with a wrong answer. I believe in integrating technology in a meaningful and effective way into all instruction, preparing students for the proficiencies they must acquire for 21st century success. I am also a big advocate of a three dimensional educational experience that includes educational field trips and international travel. I have led or organized groups of students for educational travel to various countries around the world, including: Italy, Greece, Morocco, Israel, Costa Rica, and more.

Background

I have been an English and Humanities instructor and dept. chair for over 20 years. I have taught at the Middle school, High school, Community College and University levels. I established my own Charter school in 2010 that attained state and national rankings. I have been a Dean of Students and have considerable experience with various and specific needs of student learners.
