I strongly believe that each student is unique and deserves a teaching method that works best for them. I am familiar enough with different teaching methods to be able to adapt to every student's need, for example, some students retain new vocabulary better by writing it down over and over again, while some retain it better by using it in daily conversations.
Although I want to adapt my teaching methods to fit every student's needs, some basic rules and exercises are necessary to ensure a complete immersion in the language. This includes speaking only French during lessons (except for beginners) and encouraging students to practice their speaking and listening skills. For example, I find it extremely effective to watch movies, videos, or even cartoons in French on a consistant basis as a fun way to ensure that students can understand all native speakers, not only their tutor or educational audio tapes.
I am a college student at Columbia University studying Middle Eastern Studies and Political Science in an international Dual BA Program. I was born in Paris and am a native French-speaker. I have lived in France and Switzerland before moving to New York, and have learned English, German, and Spanish at school, so I am familiar with different teaching methods and know what works best. I have tutored high school students taking French 1 and 2, but I am ready to work with students of all ages and all levels.
