I am Ashley Ramirez and I currently translate for friends and family. I have taught 2 people English and my son is currently learning American Sign Language. I speak slowly and make sure that the person is following. I use games and other ways to catch their attention. Its easier to use a method that the person is capable of learning to. I enjoy music so I learn to a beat or a rhythm I can keep in my head. My son learns best with using toys so we mix and match toys and speak English while I use American Sign Language. My method is to make sure that the person is learning in a way that is best for them.
I have been teaching small children English, Spanish, and American Sign Language from the day my oldest child was born in 2007. I use all three languages in my home. I have taught my three boys, I have taught their dad English as well. My sons father was able to obtain employment and travel back and forth between the United States and Mexico before his death in 2014. My children have a lot of friends of different races and those whom are hearing impaired. They are more social and enjoy mixing all of the languages to create their own. My nine year old has amazing grades in school as well as my seven year old. My two year old is still learning.
I am currently just a GED graduate and mother. I do have my Basic Medication Aid and am First Aid/CPR certified. I am entry level at these languages but I myself continue to learn something new every single day. I have translated at previous jobs that I have had. As a cashier it is always important to know if your customers are satisfied with their experience at the place you are working or if they needed help to locate something. When meeting my sons father he did not know English at all and I didn't know Spanish. We learned each others languages and have continued to pass that down to our children. I learned American Sign Language because my Grandfather went deaf and had to learn a new way to communicate with the people around him. I learned sign language in elementary school and made friends who were deaf or partially deaf. They have taught me more over the years and I still find a way to learn something new.
