Learning chemistry is difficult. Period. That's why it's vital to have a patient tutor who has previously mastered the topic. To make learning chemistry easier, I constantly focus on the roots of chemistry, most of which are overlooked in a classroom. After a brief lecture and Q&A, we then test the waters with some questions that encourage critical thinking before moving on to the next topic. There's no way to get all the questions correct without mastering the topic. When the student gets a question wrong, we ask each other questions until we figure out which portions of the topic need rehashing. When answering questions from a student, I always illustrate the answer in multiple forms to not only ensure comprehension of that specific topic, but to connect that topic to the entirety of chemistry. I have found that this method not keeps students engaged in learning, but is naturally adaptive to how the student learns.
Side note for students: While we will thoroughly prepare for upcoming tests, we will also focus on learning critical thinking. You might not remember or use some of the knowledge gained during our lessons in 20 years, but you will undoubtedly use critical thinking throughout your life. That is what is most important, and that is why we must learn chemistry.
I was a paid TA at Truman State University for 5 semesters, working with students of all majors and backgrounds, whether it be on homework, lab work, or preparing for tests.
I have coached many students through pre-AP, AP, general, organic, and quantitative chemistry.
Obviously, breaks during the hour are unpaid.
I am committed to the educations of my students, to me, that is more important than getting paid a certain rate. We can definitely work something out if my rate is too high to maintain throughout a semester/course.
Why my rates are high:
2.) The hour of tutoring requires at least 1-2 hours of preparation for each individual student
Evan helped me with writing, editting, chemistry, math, biology, programming, ideation, and even art. He has that unique ability that the best teachers have, where they lead you to the right answer instead of just telling you. He made learning complex topics way easier and 10x more fun.
I know I wouldn't have made it through college without him, thanks dude!
He managed to get me through gen chem and org, which was no easy feat lol.
I highly recommend him
