I have a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree from the University of Illinois and Chicago, and I'm certified to teach grades 6-12 English Language Arts. I have a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Spanish from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I studied abroad in Spain for a year! I also completed coursework for two minors: English and cinema studies.
My lessons are rigorous and engaging. I like to use humor to develop strong relationships with my students. I like to challenge my students while still having fun!
My lesson structure is simple. We will begin with an overview and/or review from our last lesson. This will be followed by a mini-lesson on a specific topic that we have agreed upon in advance. You will then practice or apply the new skill or content and have the opportunity to ask questions. The lesson will conclude with a basic assessment to make sure you have understood the material and are ready to move on.
I have taught as an 11th and 12th grade classroom English teacher for 10 years. I have taught a wide range of classes including composition, humanities, reading, literature, AP, and test prep. Teaching grammar and ACT/SAT test prep are my specialties. I have a long history of helping students grow an average of 2-3 points on the ACT English section from sophomore to junior year.
