About the lesson
I have worked with students from 3 to 70+ years old, ranging from beginner level to advanced, which has allowed me to understand the importance of motivation and differentiation. I believe that private tutoring is the ideal setting to find personalized learning paths, in which learners make choices and receive support to pursue their goals and express their ideas without fear of being judged. As a tutor, my goal is to accompany you in this process and, as a student of mine put it, teach you "Spanish for life" by integrating language learning with your own experiences.

College / University
I am a native Spanish speaker with extensive training in foreign language teaching. After graduating with honors from a Masters in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at Universitat de Barcelona, I have taught in face-to-face and online contexts. In addition, I do research, and I am a reviewer of pedagogical materials.
Perfect! I have been taking online lessons with Bianca and absolutely love it! She is very patient as I had no prior experience and excellent as explaining things. Her background and studies is in languages which is critical I believe in a teacher. I look forward to my lessons and feel safe to practice with her.. another critical point as learning and trying to speak a new language can be intimidating. I cannot recommend her enough!! She's phenomenal!
Perfect! Bianca is absolutely excellent to work with! I have a M.A. in Linguistics, have dabbled in language acquisition, and have taught language classes myself. She is brilliant in creating curriculum for each student/class, individually! (Practically unheard of these days!) She differentiates dialectal differences and places an emphasis on culture. The classes are refreshing, fun, engaging, informative and at the pace that you need.
Perfect! Bianca is very nice and easy to work with! She personalizes your class to help you learn Spanish in conjunction with your interest! She is very organized, and works hard in her free time to improve herself and help her students! I highly recommend you working with Bianca!

She has a lot of charisma and is a very gentle and nice person.
I definitely recommend Bianca for many reasons, among them is her professional style when showing her materials and the orientation of the classes according to your tastes makes you feel that they are classes made for you, the amount of tools that she knows and applies to joint and individual work and their continuous search for new ways of learning based on your preferences.
Additionally, her method has worked very well for me, I have seen the results faster than I thought. I recommend her 100%.
I enrolled in Bianca's Spanish class at the University of Georgia Osher Lifelong Learning Program. She was a fabulous instructor, making everyone in the class comfortable, instilling confidence in all of us. Bianca is an expert in teaching Spanish as a second language . Her explanations are crystal clear and she introduces quality supplementary resources when appropriate. Bianca has even published research on teaching Spanish as a second language in well regarded journals. When the class ended, two of us decided to take private lessons together with Bianca- I look forward to every class. Each class is stimulating, enlightening and also fun. If you want a superb Spanish teacher, then Bianca is the one.
I really enjoyed learning Spanish with Bianca. My program with her lasted two months, and I grew more and more comfortable with speaking in Spanish because of her. She is incredibly organized, and keeps the class experience fun and engaging. I would recommend Bianca to anyone who wishes to improve their Spanish speaking skills.
A friend and I had Bianca as an online tutor for over 150 hours last summer. I thought by the end of an hour I would be finished, but somehow by the end of 4 hours I was sorry to see the session end. She understands the ins and outs of language-learning and is conversation focused. By her unwavering patience she taught me to be patient with myself and to be adventurous in diving into Spanish.
As a lawyer working in international fora, I decided to learn Spanish as a beginner with Bianca on Mars 2020. After discussing my ambition and availabilities together, she designed a tailored methodology that we are still using today. Her training in linguistics and experience teaching students of all ages, allowed me to benefit from strengths I did not know I had and made working on areas of improvement incredibly easy. Bianca is a lively, reliable and talented professional, as well as a passionate cultural connector. I am always looking forward to our next class and, therefore, have no hesitation to strongly recommend her!

Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?
I speak Spanish because it is my native language.
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
Spanish is spoken in more than twenty countries around the world. While it is not possible to refer of a single culture, we share some cultural and historical traits. At the same time, this diversity is reflected in the language; all Spanish speakers understand each other and can communicate, but there is a great variety. Therefore, it seems to me that the teaching of Spanish should present a pan-Hispanic vision without ignoring such diversity. In this sense, an emblematic character for me is Andrés Bello: a Venezuelan intellectual who had a great impact on Latin America and who wrote one of the first works of Spanish grammar, still a reference on both sides of the Atlantic. Those of us who teach Spanish today must also build bridges between speakers around the world. I believe that one of the advantages of speaking Spanish (as a native speaker or not) is precisely to be able to access the diverse cultures that are built on this language.
Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?
Although it seems complicated at first for many learners, I like the difference between the verbs "ser" and "estar" (both the verb "to be" in English). I find that this contrast leads to reflections on existence, our way of being in the world, and so on. While it may sound a bit abstract, one of my favorite moments in class is when a student who is beginning to acquire the distinction between the two verbs shares their aha moments and reflections. It really exemplifies how learning a language impacts the way you think.
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
Speaking Spanish and teaching it allow me to share a particular kind of joy with others. Learning to speak a language allows you to explore new worlds, but it requires a willingness to listen to the people who speak that language first. It's a unique kind of listening with the added humility that comes from not having the words to say everything you want to say yet. In the process, you discover new ways of seeing things; you are transformed and become part of a new community. I think the world needs more of those types of understanding and connections between people. That's what matters most to me.
What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
In my opinion, one major difficulty in learning any language is not understanding how the acquisition processes occur. I don't believe that all learners should be subject matter experts. However, it is true that some of our experiences with traditional education have led us to believe that learning a language means adding blocks to be memorized in a specific order and that until we have each block in place, we cannot communicate. Fortunately, the process is much more dynamic and flexible than that. Not only is there room for fun but enjoying it and engaging in authentic and meaningful communication is indispensable to the success of the process. Remembering this helps us overcome moments of frustration.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
After my studies and several years of teaching experience, I realized that I needed to better understand the language learning process from the student's perspective. Although I remembered some things from my school English classes as a child, it seemed to be not enough. Today, I am a French learner myself. Every day I find new challenges and new joys. I observe more and less successful strategies employed by my tutors, and I reflect on what I do in my lessons. I believe that being on the other side of the classroom has transformed the way I teach, and my students appreciate it.
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
As a native Spanish speaker, this language has been present in all stages of my life. Also, I have had the opportunity to live in other Spanish-speaking countries, have Hispanic friends from different places, meet heritage speakers in the US, and do a master's degree at a Spanish university. All these experiences have given me a broader vision of the language and sparked my interest in its varieties, the different ways of saying the same thing, and the historical and cultural richness expressed in our choice of words.
What makes you a Superprof in language?
I believe that my students can reflect better than I can what characterizes me as a teacher. Therefore, I would invite anyone who wonders if I am the right fit for them to check out the reviews other learners have left for me. However, I would like to add that I value the trust someone gives me when they allow me to accompany them in the learning process. I will always continue studying and taking into account the feedback I receive to do the best job possible.
