About Martin
I am a final year student studying towards a master's degree in Physics with Advanced Research at the University of Strathclyde. Currently working with a research group investigating Neurophotonics, I enjoy teaching and sharing the experience and knowledge which comes from having studied Mathematics and the physical sciences in depth for the past eight years.
From this year I will also be offering French conversation classes. Having spent a year working and studying in Lyon, France, living with locals and immersing myself in the life of the city, I am fluent in French and am able to proofread, correct and suggest improvements to written pieces, encouraging the student to employ their full range of vocabulary and expression.
I enjoy having regular contact with students and building a rapport between us based on mutual respect and good humour. Whilst the current circumstances present a challenge for this and general pedagogy, I am confident a good relationship might be established and am hopeful that in-person teaching might be resumed when restrictions are lifted sufficiently.

For the past two years I have tutored students at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher level in Physics and Mathematics. Thanks to my tutoring experience I can quickly identify a student’s strengths, and where we might focus our attention.
Rather than teach through demonstration in the classroom style, I tend to guide my students through problems, starting with re-establishing basic concepts and questioning the student at each stage of the problem. This provides a foundation for tackling questions, demonstrates to the student their own understanding, and helps them identify where they have expanded their knowledge.
