Experienced online one-to-one English as a second language teacher, all levels are welcome!

Methodology

My classes are more conversation-based classes, customized to fit the needs of each student. During the first meeting, I do an oral test to evaluate the student's level of English. Then, I ask students to state their goals and to talk about their experience in past English courses. Additionally, I ask students to discuss the activities they liked and disliked in those courses. Regarding my lessons, I like to follow a book that guides the lessons, but I also create my own material and use other resources to supplement the classes. I focus on pronunciation and English that's used in the real world (reduced speech, connected speech, expressions, etc.). At the end of each unit, I do an oral test. If students prefer not to use a book and focus solely on speaking, then I am also prepared for that as I teach a few students who have finished English courses and simply don't want to lose their English. At the end of each class, I always ask students for feedback. That way, I can continuously improve my lessons and the learning experience for each student.

Background

I'm a licensed teacher from Pennsylvania who's currently living in Minnesota. I've been teaching English as a second language since 2013 when I moved to live and work in Brazil for 7 years. I've been teaching online classes for the past 5 years. I majored in Spanish, have a master's in foreign languages as well as a TESOL certification. I started off teaching small groups of students, but have found that one-to-one classes for adults are extremely rewarding.

I'm working as a professor at a Brazilian university and needed a native professor for individual English lessons to improve my skills especially for my research year in the USA. Jessica was recommended to me by a doctorate student. I had one hour lessons with her one time a week for approximately one year and can absolutely recommend her. Apart from the fact that she is confident, always very well prepared and competent, she has profound knowledge of EFL, works with updated material and has extraordinary didactic skills. Additionally, she is highly flexible concerning the topics and easily adopts to the necessities of her students. Her intercultural competence is also very high considering the fact that she has already taught in different countries. She is a great teacher, cares about the success of her students and enjoys her job so that having English lessons with her is not only a deep improvement of your skills but also having fun.

I know Jessica because I've worked with her for about 5 years and I've also been her Spanish student. Jessica prepares creative classes and she genuinely worries about delivering useful content to her students. She's caring, respectful, and patient. I would definitely recommend her to a person who is looking forward to achieving language goals without getting bored in class.

I highly recommend her as a teacher for all the professional and personal qualities I listed above.
Jessica was my English teacher for 2 years, here in Brazil. I was sad when she moved to the United States. She was my private teacher and was referred by a friend. She is an excellent teacher- patient, creative and motivating. She's also very friendly. I really enjoyed her classes and learned a lot. I highly recommend her as a teacher for all the professional and personal qualities I listed above. Most importantly, she managed to teach me, and I didn't even like English.
