I focus on understanding the barriers each student is facing, work to show the student that they can understand mathematical concepts and then work on practicing until the student is confident that they can master the problems they are working on. Math builds on itself so often a student is stuck because a basic concept was not understood and internalized.
I have taught high school math and economics and have tutored children for over 25 years (Newton and Brookline School Districts). My degree undergraduate degree is from Boston College (majored in Economics and English) and I have a Master's degree in International Development from the Institute of Development Students, Sussex University, England.
I am currently working as a Manager at Oxfam America, an international relief and development non-profit. I live in Newton, MA with 2 teenagers one of whom is heading off to college and the other who will be entering his last year at Newton North High School. I am looking to tutor elementary and middle school students evenings and weekends. I am able to come to the students house or tutor at my West Newton home. Liz Carty, (concealed information)
