Having a degree in Education, I approach learning from a point of engagement, logic and self-discovery on an individual basis. We don't all learn the same way so it is important to get to know what a student finds interesting and excites them and find out how they process information. I like to lead a student to the answers by asking logical questions I pose to them that help the student discover the subject for themselves and then apply its usefulness in a personal way. In a classroom situation, individual methods of learning are usually not available to students. Students may not see beyond the theoretical which blocks their learning process so they can neither grasp the subject matter or become bored by it. Learning is an adventure if we approach it in an individual and engaging manner.
My BS degree is in Secondary Education but I also have a Master's in Music. I have been teaching students from age 4 to 74 for many years, averaging 30 students annually. I am currently an adjunct professor at a local university in music. A number of my students through the years have received music degrees from accredited universities like Yale and state universities and gone on to earn a living in the music world. In the academic world, I believe students are very capable of learning and achieving if given the opportunity. I once taught an 8th grade class a Shakespearean play. They loved it because I made it relevant to their world instead of just the world in which Shakespeare wrote it.

Sharon is the BEST Piano teacher. My son has lessons once a week and continues to improve each year. She is great at knowing how to encourage, communicate and demonstrate skills that help him to excel. She is a great person and role model for him as well has a teacher. I would highly recommend her as a piano or music teacher.
