About Miranda

I am an Alumni from the University of California, Irvine. I received a Bachelors's degree in Business Economics. I have worked professionally as a tutor through a professional company for around a year, and also as a private tutor for longer. I love working with children to build their foundations in math. I truly believe that having a strong foundation in math while you are young will make you a better student when you are older, and it is the easiest time to fix and repair any foundational issues a student may have. I also love helping with test prep and homework help.

I can work with almost every math and science subject from elementary school level to high school level - just ask! :)

About the lesson

I tend to work with students in elementary and middle school, although I can do most math and science topics from elementary-high school levels. I work in three ways:

1st: "homework help" tutoring: When a student needs homework help I will provide brief lessons on the topic of their homework, and work through their homework with them. On request, I can assign additional homework to practice.

2nd: "test prep" tutoring: This is when I help a student prepare for a test like the ISEE, SAT, AMC, ACT, or an AP exam. I will review key topics covered by the exam, provide sample questions and practice tests, and assign homework for extra practice on request. This is a great style of tutoring to start a couple of months before an exam (or longer if possible).

3rd: "foundational teaching": I give assessments to determine a student's strengths and weaknesses, then I build a lesson plan and teach lessons to help build their foundations. I also assign homework related to what we learn in class for extra practice outside of class. This is a great style for students who struggle with math, and who would like to meet every week at a specific time.

Details

1) If the distance is greater than 30 minutes of travel time total, an additional fee will be charged at $20/hour over 30 minutes total.
2) If a child has extreme behavioral issues, I reserve the right to charge extra depending on the severity.
3) If you cancel within 24 hours of a lesson, there is no charge. If you cancel within 24 hours or do not show up within the first 15 minutes of the lesson, you are required to pay half.
