Expert in teaching the basics (reading, writing & math) to students K-9

Methodology

I have taught students K-9 for the past 10 years and loved every minute of it! I enjoy watching the students advance academically, emotionally and socially! I have worked with students in large groups, small groups and one on one. I have my elementary education, special education and reading instruction k-12 degrees. I have had a good amount of experience teaching in each of these categories. I have also tutored for school districts, Huntington Learning Center and privately at my home. When tutoring a student I believe it is important to instruct them in the manner that is most applicable to him or her. I strongly feel that every student learns most effectively when taught in a method they understand! When this happens both the student and the tutor can be successful!

Background

As mentioned previously, I have taught for the past 10 years to students K-9. My strengths and interests are reading and writing instruction. I have worked with students in reading instruction in both large and small group settings. I always emphasize the 5 main areas of reading that are necessary for a student to succeed in so they will be able to grow further and further in this subject. The five main areas of reading instruction are phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension and fluency. I have also worked with students regarding writing instruction, beginning with basic sentence structure to building paragraphs and finally writing a short story. I have found when meeting with students I have worked with in the past they have not only advanced grade wise but also developed a passion for the subject or subjects they did not care for at all in the past.
