I believe that the best way to master any level of is to practice practice practice. While I do help the students with their homework and will lecture, if necessary, on understanding the material, I feel that the most is gained by giving them practice problems, both from the book and ones I write and have them solve those problems with my supervision. This way they can improve their understanding and I can get a better idea of how well they have grasped the subject and what they need extra practice on.
I began taking Calculus from UCSB when I was 15 years old, eventually receiving a PhD in electrical engineering from UC Berkeley. I have 25+ years industry experience and have also been tutoring for 5+ years. I have successfully trained students (including my own two sons) to pass math placement exams, the AP Calculus exam and raise their course grades, improve their understanding and confidence. I have tutored all levels of math: elementary school, geometry, algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus (AB, BC, college level), multi-variable calculus and differential equations.
June 1981: Began taking calculus at UC Santa Barbara while I was still in high school
September 1983 - June 1987: student at UC Santa Barbara. Earned BS degrees in Electrical engineering and Physics. Graduated with highest honors, earning an award for being the top physics student
August 1987-May 1992: student, UC Berkeley. Earned Masters degree in electrical engineering in 1987, PhD in electrical engineering in 1992. Emphasis of work was computational electromagnetics and Radio Astronomy instrumentation.
May 1992 - present: I have worked in the industry as a researcher, using math on a daily basis to analyze complex radar problems and write image processing software.
February 2015 - present: part-time tutor for Wyzant. I have over 1400 hours of tutoring experience in physics and all levels of math. I have over 350 ratings, with a 5.0 average.
