I have taught chemistry at the college level and also dual-credit high school courses. I want to see student success which means focusing on the central concept(s), master those and then exploring beyond with real-world applications. I focus on problem-solving using dimensional analysis techniques. I don't like to load students down with memorization of discrete facts, although some is necessary. I like to show how to minimize the memorization and then use reasoning and problem-solving.
I have over 33 years of teaching experience at the 2-year college level and over 10 years work experience as an environmental chemist, including several years as a consultant. I have two masters degrees - one in education and the other in chemistry. I am very active with my professional organization - the American Chemical Society and have a strong interest in chemical education and chemical safety.
