The first thing I do is understand student goals, then the material the student wants to review. An ideal session is the student choosing a few topics to review prior to a scheduled session and we go through it together and discuss during a call.
Here are a few important terms:
The first "free" session is an introductory session to learn about you, the subject, and your needs. It is not intended as a deep dive into a topic without preparation.
The more prepared you are the easier planning out tutoring sessions will be. Don't expect me to just teach (that's what you have professors for), this is most successful when we collaborate.
I do not do last minute sessions. If you need to meet within one business day I can not guarantee availability.
I do not directly help on assignments or exams. Tutoring is available to learn and prepare. Requesting a tutor walk you through a live assignment is unethical and likely a violation of your school's code of conduct.
