I like working with adult learners at any level of their French development. I take a student-centered approach, meaning I will design my lessons around your interests and needs with the language. I like to forefront communicative ability over grammatical perfection, but also use authentic interactions to teach grammar structures. I love celebrating my students' successes and encourage fearlessness in the classroom.
I just recently graduated with my Master of Arts in Teaching Foreign Language (French) from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS). At MIIS, I served as a French tutor for one year, working with graduate students one-on-one. I then served as a Teaching Assistant for three graduate French courses over a year, which required me to design grammar-oriented and communicative-based lessons and homework that support the content-focused materials the lead teacher covered. I also taught English in France for a year via TAPIF and became adept at pedagogically spotlighting cultural differences. I am skilled at designing activities that center around students' current linguistic needs and that build their language learning agency. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in French and have lived in France for a year, studying the language and culture.

Perfect! Caleb is super organized and knowledgeable. He spoke slowly enough for me to understand, and he gave me great feedback. I look forward to our future lessons!!
Donna is a self-motivated learner who is a joy to teach. She comes in with ideas on how to improve her language proficiency, but remains open to suggestions and feedback. Her experience as a teacher makes her an ideal student. I look forward to continuing our sessions!
Cal is an excellent instructor who focuses on content based instruction, authentic materials and student centered lessons. His passion for French makes his classes both engaging and useful. He ensures that the content is tailored to the needs of each individual student. Lastly, Cal is very knowledgeable about technology and incorporates different tech resources into his instruction. Highly recommend!
I have been working with Caleb for just over one month now and I am totally satisfied with my lessons and conversation. He initially asked me what my objectives are and I said to speak, speak, speak so he has tailored our time together to allow me as much time to speak and respond to questions and comments that he has. He uses the technology well and to my advantage by showing me--real time--definitions of words or idioms that I might not be familiar with.
He is very patient and funny instructor which makes our time together fun and informative. I would wholeheartedly recommend Caleb as a French tutor who wants to learn more French, practice more French and have fun while you are doing it!
I reached out to Caleb as I wanted to continue with my French learning. Caleb is a fun and motivating instructor. Time would fly when had lessons. He would point out my weak areas and provide lots of feedback and examples. He was constantly pushing me out of my comfort zone during our lessons. He is very knowledgeable about pedagogy and I enjoyed the cultural aspects he offered during our meetings. I highly recommend him.
