Professional Experience
Pre-Med American Medical Student Association University of Central Florida, Orlando, Florida
Research Director 2016 – 2018
• Pre-Med American Medical Student Association is one of the largest pre-med organizations at UCF that I had the honor of being the research director of for 2 years. This position allowed me to build connections with the Office of Undergraduate Research and other research faculty at UCF as we organized lab tours and talks for students to sit in on to hear about the research performed on campus. We also created a research database with student advice on how to get into research. Finally, we also created an Alzheimer’s Awareness Day based around the disease to raise awareness and what can be done as preventative methods, but also how it afflicts some people and students with personal stories.
Honors Congress University of Central Florida, Orlando, Florida
Director of Volunteer Affairs 2017
• Honors Congress is the official student organization of the Burnett Honors College. The Director of Volunteer Affairs position manages all of the volunteering events for Honors Congress. As director, I managed a committee who were dedicated to volunteering that were selected after an interview evaluation. Beyond this, as director, I added criteria for an award system to add some competition for volunteering, increased the maximum members allowed to attend events to 15, signed hours needed for other organizations’ requirements, and hosted events at several locations in the surrounding areas. I also installed a welcoming and friendly environment to make events fun and interactive.
Shepherd’s Hope Clinic Orlando, Florida
Eligibility and Referral Specialist and Medical Scribe 2017 – Present
• Shepherds Hope is a non-profit clinic that serves the uninsured and underprivileged community of the greater Orlando area. I was a Medical Scribe and Certified Eligibility Specialist by the Florida Department of Health. I was a mentor to all volunteers, helping them through the initial volunteer process and having them shadow me through the special training positions previously listed. I have also assisted the clinic by stepping in for the Health Information Management whenever necessary on a volunteer basis.
• Prior to Shepherd’s Hope I thought doctors only worked in hospitals or private practice clinics to help patients to the best of their abilities. I did not know that a clinic existed that helped uninsured patients. Once I found out, I wanted to help in whatever way I could. I started with the discharge coordinator position, which allowed to me to see the patients at the end of the day when I gave them any prescriptions or information the provider wanted us to emphasize to them. It gave me pleasure to see their happy and satisfied faces at the end of the day because they were able to receive care at no cost to them. I was asked to become an eligibility specialist and medical scribe almost at the same by the managers of the clinic at the time. I was honored to be able to undergo these training sessions to have direct patient interactions. These trained positions are only given to volunteers trusted by shepherd’s hope to be consistent volunteers and trusted with secure patient information. With all of these positions combined, I gained experience with providers and communication skills with patients as well when I had to deliver or help deliver unfortunate news. Overall, I may have been unable to help on the medical aspect, but my goal was to be able to do whatever I can to help the medical providers.
Honors Congress University of Central Florida, Orlando, Florida
Secretary 2018
• Honors Congress is the official student organization of the Burnett Honors College. The Secretary position manages the organization of all of Honors Congress. As secretary, I was required to maintain FERPA guidelines, note down email addresses and other personal information of members, oversee all social media platforms, and distribute emails to all members regarding important organization and event information. I also oversaw interviews for all committees and organized the interview schedule as well. As this was an Executive Board position, I also had administrative responsibilities associated with the Burnett Honors College and Honors Congress.
Pre-Med American Medical Student Association University of Central Florida, Orlando, Florida
Operations Director 2018 – 2019
• Pre-Med American Medical Student Association is one of the largest pre-med organizations at UCF. I had the honor of being the Operations Director, which is the highest level of directorship in the organization and works very closely with the executive board. Our responsibilities were to maintain organization of the club and to approve events and ensure no events were overlapping in content and timing. We were to also maintain the website and oversaw all events being posted on social media. I was in charge of our RSVP system and ensuring all events were posted in a timely manner and overall order was being maintained in the organization in addition to the previous mentioned responsibilities.
Mathnasium Mathnasium of Oviedo, Oviedo, Florida
Instructor 2018 – Present
• As a Mathnasium instructor I was asked primarily to instruct a group of students from various age groups. The primary course was math based on what they were enrolled in and what they were placed in at Mathnasium. The goal was to make math fun and entertaining, but to also assist students struggling in the subject to excel and overcome their fear of the course. Private lessons were also performed as tutoring sessions for students that needed a more personal instruction on a subject. These subjects were courses like Geometry, precalculus, and calculus. Additionally I was asked to help with organization and other lower level administrative tasks like logging assignments and coursework.
The Cardiovascular Alliance University of Central Florida, Orlando, Florida
Founder and President 2019 – Present
• The Cardiovascular Alliance is a new student organization at the University of Central Florida that I founded and became the president of. I plan on bringing in various speakers from the medical and research world to talk about cardiology and their respective impacts on the field. We also plan on promoting educational events in the form of hiking trips, group exercise classes, and group discussions on cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.
• CVA is a new organization that I founded and became the president of. I created it with only one goal in mind: to promote the cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. My father was diagnosed with diabetes and hypertension and my grandmother passed away due to the same illnesses. Due to these personal experiences the cardiovascular world is very near and dear to me. Using these experiences and other diseases, I hope to use CVA to raise awareness of the severity of cardiovascular disorders. Therefore, until I go to medical school, I decided to provide this organization to the community that will go to high schools, and other places to make them more aware of the potential risks associated with diabetes, hypertension, and other cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, informing them on how lifestyle changes can improve life expectancy is one of my primary goals of this organization. This organization is a culmination of all of my leadership activities through pre-med AMSA and Honors Congress. I hope to use everything I have gained from those experiences in this organization and also use what I learned from the creation process, for future reference to better my leadership skills.

Parasympathetic Nerve Derived Exosomes Inhibit Hyperglycemia Induced Apoptosis in Cardiomyoblast Cells 2018
• The Honors in the Major (HIM) thesis project was a high level program at the University of Central Florida through the Burnett Honors College (BHC). This program is offered to all students to undergo an intense project over the course of a minimum of 2 semesters. Once completed, the students are expected to create a thesis and defend this thesis in front of a committee panel consisting of 2 faculty members from that major and, in my case, a non-science professor outside of the major.
• Honors in the Major was an amazing experience for me to undergo. It was an honor to be able to go through this process because it not only honed my writing skills for a thesis, but it also improved my research skills and ability to analyze complex research articles and data. This thesis and defense process showed me the rigor and diligence necessary to pass through a complex research program. I learned a great deal from my defense as well as it was in front of a professor panel: my thesis chair, a science professor from my major, and a nonscience professor from outside of my major. It taught me how to explain complex science terminology and jargon in simplified terms and how to go from generic details to small specific details. A paper has also been submitted to a peer review journal, which is pending minor revisions and will hopefully be submitted in the very near future. Finally, this process taught me the importance of knowing my project when presenting and answering questions. I hope to utilize all that I learned for any research or medical cases I will need to present on as well.

Exosomes derived from cardiac parasympathetic ganglionic neurons inhibit apoptosis in hyperglycemic cardiomyoblasts 2019
• This was a successful novel study regarding the use of exosomes derived from parasympathetic nerves to inhibit apoptosis in H9c2 cells and contrasting this affect with that of exosomes derived from sympathetic nerves.
• Diabetic cardiomyopathy is known to involve two forms of cardiac cell death: apoptosis and necrosis. However, it remains unknown whether hyperglycemia-induced apoptosis in the H9c2 cell culture system is inhibited by parasympathetic ganglionic neurons (PGN) derived exosomes (exos). We isolated PGN and sympathetic ganglionic neurons (SGN) from the right stellate ganglion in rats, and derived exos from these sources. H9c2 cells were divided into 4 groups: (1) Control, (2) H9c2 + Glucose (100 mmol/L), (3) H9c2 + Glucose + PGN-exos, and (4) H9c2 + Glucose + SGN-exos. We determined cell proliferation and viability with an MTT assay kit, and assessed apoptotic cell death with TUNEL staining and ELISA. Data were further confirmed by analyzing the presence of pro-apoptotic proteins Caspase-3 and Bax, and anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2. Glucose exposed H9c2 cells significantly reduced cell viability, which was improved by PGN-exos, but not by SGN-exos. Furthermore, increased apoptosis in hyperglycemia in H9c2 cells was confirmed with TUNEL staining and cell death ELISA which demonstrated significantly (p
