About MOON

I am Moon Chang, a fashion designer based in New York. I received my MFA fashion design degree at Fashion Institute of Technology (2017-2019), as a first cohort, selected as the winner of the departmental medal from graduate study. I graduated from BFA fashion design from Pratt Institute in New York (2016). When I entered Pratt, I received a $96,000 scholarship, and was selected as a Seemann Burse Fund scholarship recipient by placing in the president's list every semester, and I was awarded Pratt Circle Award and graduated from Pratt with honors. I also won many prestigious competitions from Nike, H&M, Amazon, Cotton Inc., Ralph Pucci, NYFW CAAFD, etc.
One of the biggest reasons for studying in MFA was that I had a goal of teaching, and I have a passion to pass on your experiences and expertise to students. My ultimate mission is to challenge myself as a designer and educator who cares about fashion and people, more in realistic ways and to communicate with people.
My strength is the experience of both education and also industry, through many years of study in school and the experiences from several work experiences in NY as a team, and also from my personal business, Moon Chang and Venus In Black, current stockist is at Showfields, Soho, NY. I made my official debut in NYFW in 2019, and I was invited to Fashion Week from London, Paris, Shanghai and Seoul, and experienced the European and Asian fashion industry. Every experience makes me approach further between creativity turning into the design and how it translates into the industry.
My ability is that I always start with traditional design and techniques and reinterpret them into modern and futuristic ways. I put values on the beauty of craftsmanship on the garments, and make them high quality. I have creative eyes, hands, and ideas to make objects including clothes aesthetically unique. I am excellent at 3D manipulation, visualizing objects and design skills: innovative pattern making and draping, fabrications, concept development, image making, photography and also Adobe Suite/ 3D Clo. I always challenge new experiments in various styles through the convergence of the arts field. I wish to share my creative process with students to widen their skills and visions as a designer, and I have the ability to support and encourage the creatives to proceed with their projects in many different and new perspectives.

The curriculum will be based on the student's desirable career/major/school, I will create the each lesson every week for each student's talent and learning skill, from the foundation based to creative art and design process, so that it can be flexible and creative. Not only in home experience, I will also spend my time to explore outside of the class so that students can experience the world of art, not just visually but also sensually, using 6 senses. My experience as fashion and art student, fashion and graphic designer in NY industry for 6 years and art tutor for 5 years will help student to open up their minds.
