I've been tutoring students for three years now; typically, these students are college-level, but I have experience tutoring students ranging from 8th grade all the way through high school. I'm comfortable tutoring via face-to-face, phone, text, online, or smoke signal (My favorite experience was walking a parent through the lesson plan over a phone call so they could later explain it to their kids). I'm very flexible in how I tutor.
I use flashcards and repetition for absolutely everything. I like using colors. I will never hand you notes; I'm a big fan of making your own notes in a way that works for you. I hate the "death by powerpoint" methods that teachers sometimes use, and I try to avoid that at all costs. I try to relate everything to real-world situations.
In a normal lesson, I'd address the problem first. Walk through it step by step, get an answer, and then you'll explain to me how you got there. We'll quickly review the topic being taught, and then we'll do another example (we'll change the situation slightly so you won't freak out when the teacher changes it on the test). You'll explain it to me again. At the end of the lesson, we'll write up some quick bullet points on what we covered. Any lesson usually fits on the front of a notecard so the student can later review the topic.
